Mock 1 — Sprechen

Teil 1 — Introduce yourself

You get seven keywords and must say one sentence about each:

Name · Alter · Land · Wohnort · Sprachen · Beruf · Hobby

Then the examiner asks you to spell something and say a number.

Model answer — say this out loud

Ich heiße Ahmed Khan. Ich bin neunundzwanzig Jahre alt.
Ich komme aus Pakistan. Ich wohne in Berlin.
Ich spreche Urdu, Englisch und ein bisschen Deutsch.
Ich bin Softwareingenieur. Mein Hobby ist Fußball.

You will be asked to spell your surname and say a number. Practise the German alphabet: K = kah, H = hah, A = ah, N = enn.

Teil 2 — Ask and answer

You get a topic and a word card. Make a question with that word, and answer your partner's question.

Card 1

Thema: Einkaufen — Karte: Supermarkt

Ask

Wo ist der Supermarkt?

Answer

Der Supermarkt ist in der Hauptstraße.

Make a question with the card word, then answer it. Wo ist…? is the simplest pattern.

Card 2

Thema: Einkaufen — Karte: Brot

Ask

Was kostet das Brot?

Answer

Das Brot kostet zwei Euro.

Was kostet…? is the standard price question.

Card 3

Thema: Einkaufen — Karte: Geld

Ask

Haben Sie Geld dabei?

Answer

Ja, ich habe Geld dabei.

A yes/no question puts the verb first: Haben Sie…?

Teil 3 — Make a request

You get a picture. Ask for the thing politely, and respond when your partner asks you.

One pattern covers almost every card:
Können Sie mir bitte … geben? · Können Sie bitte … öffnen?
Modal in position 2, infinitive at the end.

Card 1 — Bild: ein Fenster

Ask politely

Können Sie bitte das Fenster öffnen?

Reply

Ja, gern. / Natürlich.

Teil 3 is about making a polite request. Koennen Sie bitte…? plus an infinitive at the end is the safest pattern.

Card 2 — Bild: ein Stift

Ask politely

Können Sie mir bitte einen Stift geben?

Reply

Ja, hier bitte.

mir is dative (the receiver) and einen Stift is accusative (the thing).

Card 3 — Bild: eine Uhr

Ask politely

Können Sie mir bitte die Uhrzeit sagen?

Reply

Ja, es ist halb drei.

Remember halb drei means 2:30.
